Will I Keep Balding After My Hair Transplant?

While some hair loss is normal on a daily basis, many men and women experience excessive hair thinning and balding. To help patients restore their hair loss, our dedicated surgeons, Dr. Matthew Lopresti and Dr. Mary Lopresti, offer state-of-the-art hair restoration treatments, including hair transplant surgery. This life-changing procedure restores hair by collecting follicles from an area in the back of the scalp, also known as a donor site, then transplanting them in the area(s) where hair is no longer growing on top.

Hair transplants can provide incredible results, but it’s normal to wonder if you’ll keep losing hair after your surgery. In the weeks following the procedure, you may have some light hair shedding as the transplanted grafts fall out to create space for new hair to grow in. It’s essential to understand that the transplanted hair follicles are still alive and intact beneath the skin, and new hair growth will emerge from these follicles. This is a natural process, and after approximately three to four months, you should notice new hair growing in the area. As your transplanted hair continues to grow, you should be able to enjoy fuller, more youthful hair.

While hair transplants offer a way to regain lost hair, it’s important to note that they do not halt the progression of genetic hair loss. The hair that is transplanted is often genetically resistant to balding, which is why it continues to thrive in its new location. However, your existing native, non-transplanted hair is still susceptible to the effects of androgenetic alopecia (genetic hair loss), which is the most common cause of hair thinning in both men and women. Our surgeons will work with you to determine the root cause of your hair loss and find the best long-term plan to help you preserve and restore your hair.

Since hair loss is a progressive condition, it can help to address thinning before it has a chance to worsen. To achieve the most natural and long-lasting results, it’s important to consider treatments like PRP with ACell. Platelet-Rich Plasma with ACell, or PRP, therapy is a popular solution that works to reduce thinning and strengthen weakened hair. This minimally invasive treatment utilizes a component of blood that contains platelets and growth factors (PRP) to signal your tissue to regenerate and multiply. This innovative treatment, as well as others at Leonard Hair Transplant Associates, can be discussed during your complimentary consultation to determine the most beneficial options for your needs.
