Avoiding Hair Transplant Doctors with Board of Medicine Issues

Choosing the right doctor for your hair transplant procedure is a crucial decision that can significantly impact your results and overall experience. As a hair restoration surgeon, I cannot stress enough the importance of thoroughly vetting your potential doctor’s background, credentials, and any issues they may have had with the Board of Medicine. This due diligence ensures that you entrust your care to a qualified, experienced professional committed to the highest standards of medical practice.

Conducting a simple online search of the doctor’s name with the Board of Medicine for any issues or complaints is a critical step. The Board of Medicine oversees medical professionals’ conduct and can provide information on any disciplinary actions or unresolved complaints. A clean record with the Board is a good indicator of a doctor’s professionalism and adherence to medical ethics.

Hair restoration is a delicate and specialized field that requires extensive training, precision, and a deep understanding of both surgical and medical treatments for hair loss. Unfortunately, not all practitioners offering hair transplant services have the necessary expertise or ethical standards. By checking a doctor’s credentials, you can verify that they have received proper medical training and are recognized by reputable medical boards and associations.

Allow me to share a bit about my own background to illustrate what a well-rounded and thoroughly trained hair restoration specialist’s credentials might look like.

Medical Degree: I earned my medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.  The education I received there fostered a strong foundation in osteopathic principles, promoting a commitment to treating the whole person, not just symptoms.

Internship and Residency: I completed my Internship year at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Pennsylvania, followed by three years of Residency at Boston Medical Center. This period was critical for developing my surgical skills and gaining hands-on experience in a variety of medical situations.

Subspecialty Training: As a physician who completed subspecialty training at Harvard Medical School, I am deeply honored to have been a part of an institution renowned for its groundbreaking research and exceptional medical education. Harvard’s prestigious history and commitment to advancing healthcare have profoundly shaped my approach to patient care and innovation in the field of medicine.

Preceptorship: I had the privilege of completing a two-year preceptorship in hair restoration surgery directly under Dr. Robert Leonard, the founder of Leonard Hair Transplant Associates. Dr. Leonard’s 30-year experience in the field was invaluable, providing mentorship and insight that shaped my approach to hair restoration.

Associate Member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS): My association with the ISHRS reflects my dedication to staying current with the latest advancements and maintaining high standards in hair restoration.  Membership in ISHRS provides access to a wealth of resources, continuous education, and a network of esteemed colleagues, fostering professional growth and staying at the forefront of advancements in hair restoration techniques.

Lecturing Nationally and Internationally: I have had the honor of lecturing on the surgical care and medical treatment of hair loss at national and international conferences. This involvement not only underscores my expertise but also my commitment to advancing the field of hair restoration.

Take the time to research and verify your doctor’s background. Your hair and your health deserve nothing less than the best care from a qualified and reputable professional.
