Dr. Leonard Discusses the Transformation of Hair as “Final Touch” for Transgender Patients
Boston, Massachusetts – Dr. Robert Leonard, chief surgeon and founder of Leonard Hair Transplant Associates, addressed First Event 2013 in Boston on Saturday, January 26. New England’s foremost authority on hair restoration discussed the transformation of hair as the “final touch” for transgender patients, as well as the medical and surgical treatments for hair loss, and his personal approach to fulfilling their unique needs.
“Gender-correct hair is an important step in completing one’s new identity,” said Dr. Leonard, a board-certified surgeon with more than 25 years of hair restoration experience. “A masculine hair line, bald spots, or just a thinning crown can raise self-doubt even after years of work, which is why it is important to address this area.”
Scarring along the hair line caused by forehead lowering procedures or a receding hair line are also issues which transgender patients often contend with.
“Often times, an individual decides to undergo a transformation so that they do not need to feel as though they are covering up who they really are,” Dr. Leonard added. “Yet, after counseling, medical therapies, and many surgical procedures, that is exactly the feeling that hair pieces and wigs leave them with!”
